12 Days of Anime #10: Posing an End of the Year Question Part 2: How Has Anime Affected You in 2017?

Posted by

For me, 2017 was a sort of revival of my passion for Japanese cartoons. The medium saw an explosion of popularity, but aside from that, my casual viewing of a few new shows lead me to watch as much as I could and even partly lead to the creation of this blog. It was almost like a rebirth of myself, the self that would watch shows endlessly without a second thought. The self that would over analyze every story I could while watching.

While anime isn’t inherently an individual experience, many people find it to one that is rather personal. So now, a second end of the year question: What was your experience with anime in 2017? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for reading and bye for now, Friendos!

  1. I increased my consumption of anime in 2017 (which I hadn’t thought possible) mostly because I now have people to talk to regularly about anime (thanks ani-blogging community). I also recently started giving light novels and the very odd manga a go as part of my reading and now I think I’m hooked on light novels (which has played havoc with my reading list). Still, 2017 was a great year despite the many shows I ended up not liking because every season came with shows I loved.

    1. Yeah, this community has definitely been a highlight of the year for me. It’s awesome getting to talk to people about something you’re passionate about. Thanks, Karandi!

  2. I think the growth of anime’s popularity in the West this year (because of Kimi no Na wa?) made me feel a lot more comfortable with sharing my love for it. I might have been embarrassed when an acquaintance looked over my shoulder to see my 95% anime/J-pop playlist before, but now people seem to accept anime much more readily.
