Riveting Writing Prompts #8: Amiren the Sorcerer

Posted by

Welcome, weebs and authors alike, to The Aniwriter.

Its been a while since I have done one of these, and I thought I would start this series off in the new year by doing something a bit different. A friend of mine that I met last semester is starting a D&D group with a bunch of our friends, and so we have recently started sitting down in order to actually make our characters.

Since we’re playing 5th edition, I thought I would bring out my love for magic again and choose a sorcerer. I had played a sorcerer in a different campaign and really enjoyed it. So, for this Riveting Writing Prompts, I thought I would take the backstory of my Sorcerer and make it a post. Without further ado, here is the story of Amiren the Sorcerer.

Fire, an element so destructive and yet so beautiful. It serves as both a tool and a weapon. It can burn down forests while simultaneously providing warmth to those who are cold. The dragons and their ancestors know this all too well.

Two Draconic clans, The Brass and The Red, live by the creed that fire is the most important element. However, despite this mutual agreement, the two clans had long ago hated each other. It started one night at a meeting between the two. At a time when they both worked together to protect the secret of magical bloodline, the Brass and the Red held an annual ceremony to celebrate fire in all its glory. Everyone appeared relatively happy, however, Amoros, a member of the Red clan, was waiting. With malice in his heart, he murdered a Brass clan girl in front of everyone. A fight broke out that was eventually calmed by the leaders of both clans.

The leader of Brass clan asked that Amoros be punished immediately, however, the Red clan’s leader refused to do so, and from that moment on, the two clans hated each other.

A hundred years later and not much had changed. The two clans still remained separate, and very little contact went on between the two. One day, a man from the Brass clan, Amon, was taking a walk right outside the village to enjoy the woodland scenery. As he left the forest area and came to see the field of flowers, but also stumbled upon another beautiful site. A young women was already walking through the flower fields with an entranced look.

Amon decided to approach the women. “Excuse me miss.” The women immediately turned her head around. “My goodness, you scared me. And who might you be?”

“My name is Amon. I often take walks around here in order to take in the view and enjoy nature. And you?

“My name is Terra. I was named after the ancient goddess of the earth. It was also my mother’s name.

“Terra, huh. That is quite a name you have there.”

“I don’t know if it compares with your’s though, oh lord of fire.”

The two talked for many hours, lying in the field of flowers and gazing up at the sky. Eventually, though, their date had to end.

“Well, sir Amon, it has been fun, but I must be getting back.”

“The same could be said for me. Shall we do this again some time?

“Yes, I would quite enjoy that. How about it two days time, around midday we will meet back here?”

“That would be wonderful.”

The two then parted ways, each heading back to their village, without any knowledge of each other’s backgrounds.

For the two of them, two days felt like forever. Amon could not stop thinking of Terra’s intriguing smile, and Terra, likewise, could not help but remember Amon’s inviting aura. Time did eventually move, though, and soon the day of their reunion was upon them.

Amon, deciding to be extra punctual, decided to leave early. As he turned to enter the field of flowers where they agreed to meet, he saw another man with Terra. Amon then decided to hide behind a tree and listen to their conversation.

“What do you think you are doing with that man?”

“Why do you care, Ferveros?

“Because he is a member of the Brass clan, and you are a member of the red clan. If the leaders find out about your meeting, there will be hell to pay.”

“Well I don’t care. Amon is a good man, and I don’t care that he belongs to the Brass clan.”

“Fine, suit yourself”

Ferveros then walked away, presumably back towards the Red village. While adjusting his feet, Amon accidentally stepped on a particularly loud branch. Terra then turned her head to see Amon hiding.

“Amon?! is that you?”

Amon revealed himself in shame. “I’m sorry, Terra, I didn’t want to interrupt.”

“Did you hear all of that then?

“I did not mean to deceive you. I was unaware of your clan affiliation as well.”

“It is quite alright. However, it does seem as though we are at a bit of a crossroads. The rules of our clans forbid us from meeting.”

“Well, since you heard the conversation you know my position on that quite well.”

“I am aware, but the leaders will not give up so easily.”

“What if we run away? I mean, do you have anything keeping you here?

“I can’t say that I do, no.”

“Then lets go, where we don’t have to be restricted by the our clans hate-filled rules.”

“Yes, lets go.”

The two agreed to meet again in the fields of flower later that night, and leave together after they had gathered their stuff. Amon, having no family in the village, gathered his things relatively quickly, and headed back to the agreed upon spot. As Terra attempted to leave in secret, she was spotted by Ferveros

“It seems a bit ridiculous to run away with a man you’ve only known for a few days, doesn’t it.”

“Maybe to you, but Amon cares for me. I know it.”

“Very well, Terra, I respect your decision. I will pretend like I never saw you.

“Thank you, Ferveros, for everything.”

And so the two new lovers left the tiny world of their own villages and went off on their own. They eventually built a small house in a secluded area and began their new lives. A year later, the two sorcerers brought a new life into the world. They decided to combine their names and call him Amiren.

As a child, the two parents taught him how to harness the power of fire for all kinds of things. He grew up with the love of his parents and gave them the same love in return.

Time, however, is a cruel thing. By the time Amiren reached the age of forty, both his parents had passed away. At that point, he took it upon himself to use his magical powers in order to explore the world, and become and adventurer that his parents would be proud of.
