For day twenty-six of the 30 Day Poetry Challenge, a poem titled: These Walls.
As I lay out the foundation,
and stack each brick carefully but quickly,
I look out into the world.
I see those who would hate, and lie,
and wield power like a crazy man with a knife:
always ready to leave someone bleeding out in the street.
It is at this point that I remember why I started
to build a wall around myself.
